Sev.en Energy is the new owner of the CHP plants in Kladno and Zlín

Press Release

Prague/Kladno, 2 September 2019 – The Sev.en Energy group has acquired 100% of Alpiq Generation (CZ) s.r.o., which operates CHP plants in Kladno and Zlín. The seller is a major Swiss electricity producer and energy service provider, Alpiq AG. Sev.en Energy intends to further develop the acquired operations and to provide stable heat and electricity supply to customers in both municipalities. Following registration in the companies register, Alpiq Generation (CZ) will use a new name, Teplárna Kladno s.r.o., for both of the installations.

“The strategic switch between conventional energy generation and advanced energy capacities is an opportunity for us. We want to be a part of this change as the ones who will ensure the stability and security of supply while employing new modern solutions. The acquisition of Alpiq’s Czech power stations fits within this strategy very well,” says Luboš Pavlas, Sev.en Energy’s CEO.

Teplárna Kladno s.r.o. – formerly Alpiq Generation (CZ) s.r.o. – operates in Kladno three CHP units that support the use of a fuel mix with a biomass share and two flexible gas turbines. Only modern installations gradually commissioned between 2000 and 2013 are currently being operated in Kladno, and the CHP plant therefore meets the Czech Republic’s stringent environmental limits and the EU’s new regulations effective from 2021. In the Zlín CHP plant, the primary fuel is coal, and it also fires biomass and biogas. Teplárna Kladno s.r.o. produces 2,100 TJ of heat in its operations on average every year; it supplies the heat to more than 35,000 customers in Kladno and Zlín. Total annual electricity generation exceeds 2.3 TWh on average. With its 250 employees in Kladno and 150 in Zlín, it is a major local employer.

CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang, advokáti, v.o.s., and PricewaterhouseCoopers Česká republika, s.r.o. were Sev.en Energy’s advisers on this acquisition.
