InterGen commissions a new gas-fired power plant

Press Release

Spalding, Prague, 12 July 2019 – InterGen, in which the Sev.en Energy group holds 50% of shares, achieves commercial operations at the 300 Megawatt Spalding Energy Expansion project in Spalding, Lincolnshire, England.

The GBP 100 million project began construction in March 2018 and comprises one Siemens F-class gas turbine in open cycle configuration, resulting in a highly flexible peaking plant that will provide essential back-up for renewable sources of generation and provide essential power during periods of peak demand.

“We are delighted that the Spalding Energy Expansion project has achieved commercial operations safely, ahead of schedule and within budget,” said Jim Lightfoot, InterGen’s CEO. He also noted that he was looking forward to delivering more projects that would help ensure reliable electricity supply for the UK as the country transitions towards a net zero economy.

The Spalding Energy Expansion project is the first and, to date, only large scale thermal project to secure limited recourse financing. The project was also enabled by a capacity market award when it secured a 15-year capacity agreement in a December 2016 auction.
